LAKESIDE FLAT WHITES AND NEIGHBOURLY BARBECUES
In deepest, leafiest Surrey, development director Tim Jones looks across to the spot where work is about to begin on the Discovery Building. “It’s going to be great,” he says. “It’ll sit really nicely amidst its surroundings – with the lake just behind it, and these trees all around.”
Glass-fronted and three storeys high, the pavilion-style Discovery Building will feature a high-end coffee shop, an artisanal delicatessen and two floors of beautiful office space. Surrounded by artfully landscaped greenery, it’s designed – and destined – to become a welcoming focal point for the thriving Longcross Park community.
“This spacious outdoor area will allow for overspill from the café during warmer days,” says Tim. “There’s space for barbecuing during the summer, and provision for holding outdoor events here, too.”
The Discovery Building is a key element of the Longcross Park vision, and its arrival is set to benefit local employees and residents alike. “It’s a really striking and architecturally bold building, but it’s also been designed with people and comfort firmly in mind,” says Tim. “This is going to become the go-to meeting spot within Longcross – particularly given its location, right here in the centre of the scheme, and so close to the train station.”
Building work is commencing imminently, and is scheduled for completion in spring 2020. “The work is running in parallel with the second phase of residential development,” says Tim. “That entails another 78 apartments being added to Upper Longcross. With the community here growing at the speed it is, the Discovery Building couldn’t be arriving at a better time.”
